Arsenal have a long list of incredible players they have narrowly missed out on over the years, one of them is RB Leipzig and France star Christopher Nkunku.

Back in January 2019, then-Gunners boss Unai Emery was on the lookout for a versatile player. Nkunku, who was at Paris Saint-Germain then, knew the Spaniard very well thanks to their time together in the French capital.

Arsenal were heavily linked with a move for the versatile Frenchman, but in the end, they decided he wasn’t worth the money that PSG were demanding for him, which was a measly £13 million (One Football).

The Gunners ended up signing Denis Suarez on loan instead and everybody at the Emirates must now be kicking themselves.

Ex-Arsenal target Christopher Nkunku has more goals than Messi and Ronaldo combined

Nkunku, labelled as ‘dangerous’ by France boss Didier Deschamps, has been one of the best players in the world this season and that’s no exaggeration at all.

The Frenchman has scored 30 goals and has provided 18 assists in just 43 appearances in all competitions this season. That is an outrageous return and his goals, assists and direct goal involvements this term put both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to shame.

The Manchester United man has scored 18 goals and provided three assists, while PSG’s Argentine superstar has eight goals and 13 assists to his name in all competitions this term.

Not many players can come out and say that their numbers absolute dominate either Messi or Ronaldo. Nkunku, however, can say that and more as he has scored more goals, picked up more assists and registered more goal contributions than the two best players in history combined this season.

Arsenal look silly now

In the Premier League this season, Arsenal have scored 45 goals so far. That’s just 15 more than Christopher Nkunku has scored all by himself this term, which is an outrageous statistic.

Still only 24, Nkunku isn’t even near his peak yet and he’s on track to hit 50 direct goal contributions in a single season while playing for the fourth-best team in Germany. Imagine what he’d do at a better club.

If Stan Kroenke had agreed to fork out £13 million for Nkunku three years ago, the versatile Frenchman could well have been putting up those numbers in an Arsenal shirt, which makes the Gunners look really silly now.

Nkunku is likely to join a top club for massive money this summer. Arsenal can only just watch as it’s extremely unlikely that they can get him now after the season he has had.
