Arsenal-linked Marco Asensio says he wants to stay at Real Madrid for 10 more years

Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Real Madrid star Marco Asensio for a while now, and the Spaniard has now shed some light on his future.

The Mirror reported back in August that Arsenal were in the driving seat to sign the 26-year-old. CalcioMercato revealed almost a month after the window closed that the Gunners were being rivalled by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur for his signature.

Asensio has now come out and revealed what he wants to do.

Arsenal-linked Marco Asensio says he wants to stay at Real Madrid for 10 more years

Asensio joined Real Madrid from Mallorca back in 2016 and after a year out on loan, he quickly became a star under Zinedine Zidane.

Everyone expected the Spaniard to become the future of the Galacticos, but things just haven’t gone his way at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carlo Ancelotti revealed in the summer that Asensio was free to leave Real Madrid, but he decided to stay put. His contract expires at the end of this season, and he has been heavily linked with a free transfer to multiple clubs, including Arsenal.

However, the ‘world class‘ attacker has now come out and claimed that he wants a new contract at Real Madrid – one that would keep him at the club for another decade.

He told Mundo Deportivo: “There is talk that I am changing Real Madrid’s mind. But I have always tried to give the best that I have inside and then it will be known. The one who decides, too, is the club, it does not only depend on me.

“After the World Cup, we’ll both make a decision. What if I want to renew? Hopefully it can happen and I’ll be very happy at Real Madrid for many years, hopefully everything will be given to stay for 10 more years.”

Asensio clearly wants to stay at Real Madrid, but whether the Galacticos want to keep hold of him is the big question.

The Spanish champions were more than willing to let him go in the summer transfer window. He has started just three games in all competitions since, and we can’t see how or why they’d be willing to give him a new deal.

That would open the door for plenty of clubs to make an offer for him. He can even sign a pre-contract with a foreign club as early as in January, which is great for interested sides as they can snap him up on a free transfer.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Asensio once the World Cup is over.
