Football journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Arsenal ‘like’ Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka, and have been scouting him for a while now.

The Gunners are expected to be active in the January transfer window. A new central midfielder and a wide player are Mikel Arteta’s priorities at the moment (The Sun), but they could do with another left-sided centre-half as well.

Ndicka, who was excellent in the Champions League last night, could well be the man.

Gabriel Magalhaes is Arsenal’s only left-footed central defender. The Brazilian has been very good for the Gunners and was even recently rewarded with a new contract.

However, lack of natural alternatives in that position has forced Gabriel to play almost every single game this season. That’s not ideal at all, and that could well be why Arsenal have been linked with Ndicka.

The Frenchman, branded as ‘phenomenal’ by Adi Hutter (Bundesliga.com), is all set to leave Frankfurt in one of the next two transfer windows. Jacobs has claimed that Edu’s Arsenal ‘like’ him and have conducted their due diligence on him already.

The journalist told GiveMeSport: “Arsenal like the player (Ndicka).

“They’ve certainly done their legwork and their due diligence and their scouting on him. There’s a lot of interest in the player, not just from the Premier League but from all across Europe as well.”

TBR View:

Ndicka is a very good player and the fact that he’s still only 23 means he will only get better in the coming years.

What makes him a very attractive option, however, is the fact that he has already entered the final year of his contract. He’ll likely be available for a bargain fee in January or for absolutely nothing next summer, and plenty of clubs will surely be keen to sign him.

Arsenal’s transfer policy these days involves signing young players who have the potential to become big stars in a few years’ time. Ndicka checks that box, and it is no surprise at all that he’s being looked at.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal will make a move for Ndicka in January. We won’t be surprised at all if they just wait six more months and sign him for nothing in the summer.
