Arsenal fans still have one reason to believe late signing is possible on deadline day

Arsenal seem to be leaving the transfer window empty handed.

David Ornstein has revealed that nothing is imminent at Arsenal right now – despite Mikel Arteta admitting he was looking to sign a new striker after losing Gabriel Jesus to a serious knee injury.

The Spaniard said: β€œIt is clear that in the period that we lost them, ideally we need some help. We were short already and now we are even shorter.”

Arsenal explored a move for Mathys Tel – but opted against rivalling Tottenham for the Frenchman, with Arteta unconvinced the Bayern Munich No.39 would be any better than his existing options.

However, there is one reason for Arsenal fans to stay invested in transfer deadline day.

Arsenal did not seem likely to make any deadline day signings last summer either – before a sudden move for Raheem Sterling quickly materialised before the 11pm deadline.

On that day back in August, the first concrete link between Arsenal and the England international did not emerge until 10:05pm – just 55 minutes before the deadline – which should give fans hope of a late deal materialising.

It was Fabrizio Romano who revealed the news – posting that Arsenal began discussing Sterling as a potential signing internally at 10:05pm before the signing was eventually announced around 02:00am, long after the deadline thanks to the submission of a deal sheet.

Ornstein even added that he doubted Arsenal would sign Sterling before the move happened – so fans should not be left disillusioned by what the respected journalist said earlier today either about a lack of transfer movement.

Who Arsenal could sign

The likes of Benjamin Sesko and Dusan Vlahovic seem unlikely for Arsenal due to the fact they would have to fly in from Germany and Italy respectively, and also undergo a medical.

Therefore, a more local signing seems more feasible, which leads us to think someone like Liam Delap is likelier to arrive.

Tim Sherwood told Arsenal to sign Delap earlier on deadline day – and with the Ipswich Town No.19 believed to be keen on a move to London, it could happen, although the Tractor Boys would surely demand a huge fee at this stage of the window.
