If Arsenal signing Kai Havertz from Chelsea was a big ordeal, then the Gunners bringing Raheem Sterling to north London would be astronomical.
Arsenal are in the market for another winger right now, Mikel Arteta reportedly wants better competition for Bukayo Saka on the right.
Leandro Trossard was superb against Aston Villa – a performance that Gary Neville said ‘made him wince’.
But Arsenal would benefit from better strength in depth in wide areas, and Sterling does appear to be a very sensible option.
Enzo Maresca has made it very clear that Sterling is not in his plans at Chelsea, opening the door for a departure before Friday’s deadline.
Of course, given Arteta worked with Sterling at Manchester City and has often been very complimentary about him over the years, many have put two and two together.
Sterling is available, Arteta loves him, and Arsenal need a winger.
That being said, reliable journalist David Ornstein has now weighed in on those rumours, and it’s not necessarily good news for those hoping that Sterling is set for an Arteta reunion.
Arsenal would be appealing to Raheem Sterling but nothing is developing right now
Sharing his update via The Athletic, Ornstein said that nothing was ‘developing’ in terms of Arsenal signing Sterling right now.
Ornstein recognised links between Sterling and the likes of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

But as well as rejecting the idea that Villa were in the frame for a move, the journalist appeared to do the same on Arsenal’s end.
Ornstein recognised that Arsenal carry appeal to Sterling, given their location and the healthy state of the club right now.
And although Sterling also boasts his strong relationship with Arteta as mentioned, there’s nothing ‘developing’ as of now.
The journalist did say that Sterling’s situation on the whole could be revisited in January if nothing happens in the next few days – when the winger may still be a suitable option for Arsenal.
At the start of the summer, many Arsenal supporters would have swiftly rejected the idea of signing Sterling, who appeared to be on the decline at Chelsea.
However, given Sterling would arrive in north London as a squad player, it’s almost hard not to be intrigued to see if Arteta could derive the best from the England international once again.
That being said, Arsenal have just slashed their asking price for one of their own England stars.
