There are just hours to go in the winter transfer window, and Arsenal still haven’t made a move in this transfer window.
Indeed, Arsenal are yet to make a single signing in 2025, but it hasn’t been for a lack of trying.
Arsenal made a bid for Ollie Watkins last week, while Arsenal also made an approach for Evan Ferguson earlier this month.
However, Arsenal haven’t managed to sign a new striker so far this month, and according to David Ornstein, speaking on The Athletic FC YouTube channel, there is no suggestion that Arsenal are going to bring anyone in before deadline day.
Arsenal won’t be active, but according to Ornstein, those within the club are calm about this situation.

What David Ornstein has heard from Arsenal
Ornstein shared an update from Arsenal on deadline day.
Unfortunately, Ornstein’s update also came with an apology as he said that Arsenal won’t be bringing in any new signings today to his knowledge.
“Please let me know David, Arsenal, have they given up on the window, are they going to be doing anything?” Ornstein was asked.
“Not to our knowledge no, they explored plenty of options. Sorry to let everyone down, it’s not my fault,’ Ornstein said.
“Of course they would like to have added to their resources, they were exploring the market, but apart from the Watkins situation, other than that there was no real realistic chance of getting Benjamin Sesko, Alexander Isak or anyone else who was linked with them.”
“I sense relative calm from Arsenal inside the club, they know it’s a gamble, the stakes are high here. There’s no guarantee it will go to plan, but there was no guarantee that it would go to plan if they brought somebody in.”
Premier League Champions’ past January business
Arsenal are going to keep their powder dry and not make any signings in this January transfer window.
That is disappointing in a lot of ways. However, history shows that you don’t necessarily need to be busy in January in order to win the Premier League.
Indeed, more often than not, teams who go on to win the title aren’t all that busy in the transfer window.
| Season | Premier League champions | First-team signings that arrived in January |
| 2023/24 | Manchester City | None |
| 2022/23 | Manchester City | None |
| 2021/22 | Manchester City | None |
| 2020/21 | Manchester City | None |
| 2019/20 | Liverpool | Takumi Minamino |
| 2018/19 | Manchester City | None |
| 2017/18 | Manchester City | Aymeric Laporte |
| 2016/17 | Chelsea | None |
| 2015/16 | Leicester City | Demarai Gray, Daniel Amartey |
| 2014/15 | Chelsea | Juan Cuadrado |
You don’t need to have a busy January transfer window to win the Premier League title, and with both Liverpool and Arsenal leading the way this year, it looks like, once again, the eventual champions won’t be busy.
Arsenal do have work to do in the summer, and Alexander Isak is a target for the summer, so there could be some transfer excitement on the horizon, but, for now, it looks like it will be a quiet end to the window for Spurs.
