Arsenal went clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, in what has been an ideal weekend for them after losses for both Manchester City and Liverpool. But manager Mikel Arteta still has one ‘abysmal’ problem to fix, according to Gunners fans.
Eberechi Eze scored against his former club Crystal Palace to mark his first Premier League goal for Arsenal, but the Eagles were still in the game for a while at 1-0.
Arsenal’s attack weren’t quite able to wrap the game up, with Palace keeping them at bay as Mikel Arteta’s side aimed to get the win over the line.
And that saw forward Leandro Trossard come under fire from the Gunners faithful, with fans amazed as to how he was still on the pitch.

Arsenal fans not happy with Leandro Trossard’s performance vs Crystal Palace
Fans were not overjoyed with Leandro Trossard for his first half performance. Although Arsenal went into the break with the lead against the Eagles, that didn’t stop them from wondering why the former Brighton man was still on the pitch.
On X (formerly Twitter), one fan kicked us off by stating: “Nwaneri for Trossard then Eze goes wide would change our lives”, whilst another wrote: “Trossard is a couple of seconds off the pace. A couple of times when he could have gotten Gyokores in he delayed and loses possession. Fine margins in games like these and you need to be on it.”
The Belgian came under more duress from fans online, with one even calling part of his game ‘abysmal’.
The criticism didn’t stop there. One fan wrote: “We’re not playing bad but Gyokeres needs to get involved more. Trossard, no words honestly”, and a further fan stated that Trossard’s days would be numbered once a fully fit attack is motoring, adding: “Trossard will be 4th choice when everyone is back”.
More puzzled views came his way, with one fan writing: “We need more urgency and drive in front from Trossard and Saka. Trossard letting balls go out for a throw in is something I don’t understand.”
Fans further called for Gabriel Martinelli to come back to the fore. One posted: “We need Martinelli. Trossard offers nothing when he starts”, whilst a final fan said: “Trossard can’t be a guaranteed starter in the league man lol.”
Trossard survived being substituted with Bukayo Saka instead being hauled off on the hour mark, but he failed to make anything count.

Leandro Trossard has been a good servant to Arsenal
Leandro Trossard moved from Brighton to Arsenal in January 2023, a cheap but dependable signing after a strong six months at the AMEX Stadium.
However, nobody could have predicted quite how vital he would be to Mikel Arteta.
Bukayo Saka’s hamstring issues and a lack of form for Gabriel Martinelli meant that the Belgian was used more often than anticipated in the 2023-24 season.
17 goals in 46 appearances for Arsenal saw Trossard labelled as ‘outstanding’ by Micah Richards, and that then saw him play in every Premier League game last season as Arsenal finished second for the third year running.
| Player | Premier League appearances, 24-25 | Starts |
|---|---|---|
| David Raya | 38 | 33 |
| Leandro Trossard | 38 | 28 |
| Declan Rice | 35 | 33 |
Arsenal are open to selling Trossard, as TBR Football recently revealed, potentially bringing his time at the Emirates Stadium to a close.
But the Gunners would have to rely on the youth of ‘phenomenal’ Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri if he was to depart, and sometimes, that experience is invaluable.
