If reports are true, Arsenal could be about to seriously annoy Conte at Tottenham - TBR View

Arsenal and Tottenham are both being linked with a number of big signings during the January transfer window.

Both North London clubs harbour top four dreams and even more, and a good January window could be the difference between the duo making those dreams a reality.

Of course, the January window is a notoriously hard window to navigate. Value for money is hard to come by but at the same time, both Arsenal and Spurs know adding quality is key.

One of the more recent names to be linked with Arsenal is Italian midfielder, Nicolo Zaniolo. CaughtOffside cites a report from Italian outlet Radio Radio in stating that Zaniolo could now be an option for Mikel Arteta and Edu.

And given the long links between Tottenham and Zaniolo, it would be a transfer that wouldn’t half get under the skin of a certain Antonio Conte.

Zaniolo only ever seemed destined for Spurs

We all know Conte has demanded squad improvements even since he arrived at Hotspur Way. And to be fair to Daniel Levy and the board, they have done just that and backed him.

But the name of Zaniolo is one that Conte has had on his list for some time. Conte’s interest in Zaniolo goes all the way back to when he first arrived at Tottenham. And that interest is still there, with reports as recent as November claiming Spurs were still in the hunt for the Italian.

Adding further fuel to the fire as well, reports just week have suggested Zaniolo might even be allowed to leave Roma for around £25m in the summer.

But if that club he joins turns out to be Arsenal, then it will sting for Conte and Tottenham. Of course, clubs miss out on players all the time. But Conte has clearly identified Zaniolo a long time ago and if Mikel Arteta somehow usurped him on this one, it would be a hammer blow.

Conte, then, will hope Fabio Paratici has his finger on the pulse when it comes Zaniolo’s next move.
