Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has made it clear that he wants to add reinforcements to his squad in January.

Spurs had to deal with an attacking injury crisis before the World Cup that certainly affected their results.

The loss of Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison was detrimental to Tottenham’s form.

Conte tried moving away from his preferred formation and moving Ivan Perisic up the pitch to solve the issue.

Neither solution really worked and Spurs looked a much weaker team without their first-choice forwards.

However, the pair returned for the final game before the World Cup – as Son Heung-min dropped out – to take part in an entertaining tie against Leeds.

They certainly made their mark as Tottenham managed to outscore Leeds in an encounter where neither defence covered themselves in glory.

The report from TuttoMercatoWeb suggests that Tottenham are now leading the race for Roma attacker Nicolo Zaniolo.

Spurs have admired Zaniolo for a long time, and now could be in a position to finally bring him to north London.

Zaniolo’s contract runs out in 2024, and Roma are keen on keeping the 23-year-old at the club.

If they were to sell Zaniolo, Roma would be happy to accept a £35m offer.

FootballNews24 believe that Arsenal are also keen admirers of Zaniolo and are keeping tabs on the attacking midfielder.

The ‘incredible’ playmaker hasn’t reached the heights that he has previously shown he’s capable of.

Zaniolo has managed just two goals and a single assist in all competitions this season.

A left-footed attacker who typically plays on the right-hand side, Zaniolo’s strengths lie in his dribbling and forward passing.

He’s also keen to take plenty of shots, but has had a low conversion rate this season.

Tottenham will be happy to be leading the race for Zaniolo, especially if they can beat fierce rivals Arsenal to his signature.

His injury record might be a concern for Spurs, but Conte’s track record of recruiting talent from Italy can’t be ignored.
