Arsenal can finally sign Giroud replacement by joining reported hunt for £26m-rated striker - TBR View

If Arsenal want to finally find a replacement for Olivier Giroud, they should join the reported chase to sign Wolfsburg forward Wout Weghorst this summer.

Giroud bizarrely received mixed responses from fans during his six-year spell at Arsenal. But, it seems like the Gunners only truly realised his value once he left.

The 34-year-old French striker has a brilliant record of 105 goals in 253 appearances for the north London club. However, his move to Chelsea in 2018 has seen him enjoy great success ever since.

He’s now won both the Champions League and Europa League with London rivals Chelsea.

Despite the fact he’s not the quickest, Giroud offered something different in attack at the Emirates Stadium

The left-footed frontman is a bit of a throwback with the way he uses his body to bully defenders. In addition, he’s amazing in the air and the scorer of some spectacular goals.

He’s the kind of player that current Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would surely love to have at his disposal.

Weghorst can be Giroud replacement at Arsenal

It may be a few years later, but there is an ideal opportunity for the Gunners to sign a Giroud successor.

According to the Athletic, Tottenham, Newcastle and West Ham are all interested in raiding German Bundesliga club Wolfsburg for their star attacker.

There is a chance  could be sold if his £26million price tag is met.

Those that have tuned into the group stages of the Euros will know about Weghorst.

The 28-year-old centre-forward has made an impressive start to this summer’s tournament for a Netherlands side that are in the knockout stages. He scored in a win over Ukraine. Meanwhile, last night he caught the eye in the victory against Austria.

Pundit Jermaine Jenas is one of many to be impressed by Weghorst at the Euros, as relayed by The Boot Room.

He’s very much cut from the same cloth as Giroud.

The Wolfsburg frontman could offer something different with his aerial threat and intelligent movement. Plus, he scored 25 goals in 41 matches across all competitions last season.

For £26million, he has to be an option that Arsenal look at.
