As we approach the business end to the 2023/24 campaign, a number of footballers are playing for their futures – including some Tottenham players.
Ange Postecoglou has been able to take a proper look at his squad across the past nine months ever since replacing Antonio Conte – and there is one player he may never use again.
So, who might the Australian never play again at Tottenham? Let’s take a look…
Djed Spence may have already played his final game for Tottenham
Well, Djed Spence – a player currently on loan from Spurs at Genoa – may never feature again under Postecoglou.
The England U21 international played a part in the Australian’s pre-season, appearing against Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy before joining Leeds on loan.
Spence has since had that move terminated and was immediately sent to Genoa, but has now spoken about his desire to make a name for himself back at Tottenham.
The right-back told The Athletic: “I want to play for Tottenham. I want to be a big part of the plan but we’ve got to see how things go, have a discussion with the manager and everyone.
“It’s a big difference with the new manager, I did pre-season with him, he’s a good guy, he has good training sessions, he likes to play football, it’s a new environment at the club. I think everyone’s enjoying it and doing well, I’m pleased for them.”
However, the £47,000-a-week man might have already kicked his final ball for Tottenham.

Alasdair Gold of Football London claims that Genoa have been impressed with Spence, which leads us to believe the Italian side are likely to trigger their €10m (£8.5m) option to buy the Londoner on a permanent basis.
Therefore, even if Postecoglou did want to use the 23-year-old again after taking a look at him during pre-season last summer, Genoa hold the cards having negotiated an option to buy.
Spurs set for a loss
Tottenham paid £12.5m to sign Spence from Middlesbrough in July 2022 while Conte was at the helm.

Therefore, Spurs are staring a small £4m loss in the face – if Genoa do decide to trigger that £8.5m purchase option.
Of course, that is not a huge amount of money, although a shrewd businessman such as Daniel Levy will surely be annoyed to see how things have turned out with Spence ever since that initial £12.5m investment.
