Djed Spence has now revealed that he wants to make a name for himself at Tottenham when his loan at Genoa expires.

The 23-year-old made the comments when speaking to The Athletic.

So, what did Djed Spence say about Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

Djed Spence confirms desire to play for Tottenham

Well, the England U21 international’s future at Spurs was clouded in doubt when Leeds terminated his loan spell at Elland Road back in January.

Tottenham ended up sending Spence on another loan – this time to Genoa – before Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail claimed that the £12.5m man will not have a future at Tottenham while Ange Postecoglou is in charge.

Now – however – the Londoner has revealed that he wants to become a “big part” of the Australian’s project in N17.

Spence said: “I want to play for Tottenham. I want to be a big part of the plan but we’ve got to see how things go, have a discussion with the manager and everyone.

“It’s a big difference with the new manager, I did pre-season with him, he’s a good guy, he has good training sessions, he likes to play football, it’s a new environment at the club. I think everyone’s enjoying it and doing well, I’m pleased for them.”

Performances at Genoa bode well

As aforesaid, reports suggest Postecoglou does not want Spence at Spurs, so the right-back has a lot of work to do to impress the 58-year-old.

However, his start to life at Genoa bodes well for the future.

Alasdair Gold of Football London claims that people at the Italian side have been impressed with Spence so far, which suggests he is starting to knuckle down and focus.

Interestingly – according to Fabrizio Romano – Genoa have a €10m (£8m) option to buy the defender.

That means Spence may not even get the chance to return to Tottenham if the Serie A outfit decide to trigger that clause, so an interesting summer awaits for the Spurs outcast.
