'Amazing': Mason Mount blown away by 25-year-old player Tottenham reportedly want to sign
Chelsea’s Mason Mount has praised the form of England teammate James Maddison before the World Cup gets underway.
He was Leicester’s shining light while the team was struggling and has kept that going now his teammates have improved.
That has earned him a spot in the World Cup squad, where he will be battling with Mount, who was asked by TalkSPORT about Maddison.
Mount on Maddison
He said: “There’s massive competition and we know the technical ability we have going forward and being able to combine going forward as a unit is so important.
“Madders has been amazing this season and the goals he’s scored and assists he’s got really help us as a team so it’s brilliant to see him come into the squad again.
“We’re all in this together so we’re a group, we want to be here for a long time so we have to keep working hard together.
“There’s competition but that sets the level high in training and in games so you’re always at the best level you can be and if that’s as a sub or starting the game you want to give it everything as you know there’s players on the bench that want to come on and make an impact also.”
Mount was in the squad for Euro 2020, but was forced to sit out two games after being a close Covid contact of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour.
He did not show his best form, despite being used in a variety of roles by Gareth Southgate in 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3 formations.
He will be looking for better at his first World Cup, while Maddison is looking to add to his sole England cap on the biggest stage of all.
