'I like him': Phil Foden says £20m player Tottenham reportedly want to sign is so good at passing
Manchester City’s Phil Foden has lavished praise on England teammate James Maddison ahead of the World Cup.
Maddison has had transfer interest from Tottenham, as well as Newcastle United, and has been on great form this season.
Foden and Maddison have played together at England Under 21 level and are now in the senior squad looking to bring the World Cup home.
In an interview with the Mail, Foden shared what a big fan he is of Maddison, who will be looking to add to his solitary England cap in Qatar.
Foden on Maddison
Foden said: “Technically, it’s probably the best England squad I’ve seen.
“I like Mason Mount a lot and James Maddison as well, the way he plays – players who can receive it in the pocket on the half-turn and can make the killer pass or shoot from distance.
“There is competition in every position. No matter who plays, the others will be supporting them because that’s the kind of group we are.
“We just want the best out of each other.”
Maddison may have been out of the England squad for around three years, but he will know the likes of Foden already which will make it easier for him to settle in now.
The £20 million man looks set to go for more than that if he does leave Leicester, unless he runs his contract down, and it remains unresolved either way.
For now, he will be focused on bringing the World Cup home for England, and continuing that hugely impressive form he has shown this season.
