Ally McCoist says attacker Liverpool sold for just £12m is ‘extremely underrated’

Liverpool have had their fair share of underrated players over the years.

Indeed, Alexis Mac Allister remains very underrated, Curtis Jones often goes under the radar, while Ryan Gravenberch doesn’t get the credit he deserves sometimes.

Speaking on the TalkSPORT Daily Podcast, Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling have been debating who are the most underrated players in the Premier League, and, interestingly, McCoist picked out a former Liverpool player in this conversation.

Indeed, according to McCoist, Fulham’s Harry Wilson is an extremely underrated player.

Of course, Wilson joined Fulham from Liverpool for just £12m a few years ago, and he’s blossomed into a very effective Premier League player.

Harry Wilson is underrated

McCoist and Stelling spoke about Wilson being an underrated player.

Stelling had debated the idea that Alex Iwobi is the most underrated player in the Premier League, while McCoist wanted to give his Fulham teammate a mention, claiming he’s a ‘terrific’ footballer.

“Excellent. I don’t disagree. I would throw another one at you from the same team, Harry Wilson,” McCoist said.

“I think he is extremely underrated. I think he’s a terrific footballer. I think his vision is excellent.

“I think he’s an extremely composed finisher.”

Harry Wilson didn’t quite make it at Liverpool, but, in another world, he perhaps could have been a star at Anfield.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp thought Wilson had a lot of potential when he was a young player.

“Of course he can [succeed at Liverpool],” Klopp said (via Goal). “That’s why we loaned him, so he can make the steps.

“It would have been difficult for Harry and I would have loved to have had him here if we had another choice, especially when Xherdan Shaqiri was injured.

“You want to have these kinds of players but that is not the moment to decide. All the players we sent on loan have the chance to make it in the first team; otherwise we would have sold them.”

“His shooting is world-class. Find me five players who shoot better than him. That is obvious, but the game is about more and that is what he has to improve and that is clear.”

Wilson has been brilliant for Fulham over the past 12 months, and, as McCoist says, he’s now one of the Premier League’s more underrated players.
