John Obi Mikel says Liverpool have a £35m player who’s so underrated and never gets enough credit

The title race is over in the eyes of some, and this is likely to go down as a historic season at Anfield.

The team have been brilliant, and, individually, a number of players have stepped up.

Mohamed Salah is in Ballon d’Or winning form, while Ryan Gravenberch has transformed this season.

Speaking on his podcast, John Obi Mikel has been discussing Gravenberch’s performances this season, and he says that he’s a fantastic player who doesn’t actually get the credit he deserves.

John Obi Mikel says Ryan Gravenberch is underrated

Mikel shared his verdict on Ryan Gravenberch.

The Chelsea legend compared the £35m man to Rodri, describing him as absolutely fantastic.

Meanwhile, Mikel said that, much like many defensive midfield players, Gravenberch doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

“So because I am one, I play in my position. When I see a player who’s doing so well, I become a huge fan. And for me, Gravenberch the way he plays, not only defending, breaking up players when he has the ball, you know, he drives the ball forward, he pushes the team forward,” Mikel said.

“For me, I like, it’s a bit like Rodri. And for me, he’s been absolutely fantastic, really.

“I feel like players in your position, like even when you were playing, I feel like…” The host said.

“We never get the credit,” Mikel added.

Ryan Gravenberch compared to Rodri

Mikel compared Gravenberch to Rodri when discussing the Liverpool star, and it is interesting to compare the two players.

Indeed, Rodri won the Ballon d’Or for his performances last season, while Gravenberch has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season.

The stats show why both players are held in such high regard.

Rodri is clearly that next level of player compared to Gravenberch, but both men are cut from the same sort of cloth in that they’re incredible defensive forces who can also progress the ball well.

Rodri is more of a goal threat, and he’s also more creative, but Gravenberch does outperform Rodri in terms of interceptions per game.

Both players are excellent holding midfielders who have defined their respective teams title tilts over the past two seasons.
