Newcastle United put another team to the sword yesterday, running out 4-1 winners against Southampton.

Eddie Howe’s side controlled the game from the off, and put the game to bed with two quick goals just after half-time.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville reflected on another impressive Newcastle win.

Newcastle now find themselves in 3rd place in the Premier League, and will go into the World Cup break in the Champions League places.

The turnaround under Howe has been extraordinary, and a number of his players are now playing the best football of their careers.

Dan Burn has been revolutionised as a left-back, and has been one of the league’s standout defenders.

However, Neville said he’s changed his mind on forward Miguel Almiron, who has been brilliant this season.

Almiron scored his seventh goal in seven games yesterday, finishing off a fluid Newcastle move.

The Paraguayan drove with the ball into the box, before sitting Ainsley Maitland-Niles down and slotting the ball home.

Neville has changed his mind on Almiron

Speaking on his podcast after this weekend’s games, Neville talked about just how good Almiron has become.

“When you think of some of the players (who were there before),” Neville said.

“We were watching Almiron then and thinking, what’s happened to him?

“He was almost ridiculed wasn’t he for the first year or two that he was at the club.

“And now, all of a sudden, we’re looking at him and saying, ‘what a player he looks.’”

The £20m forward has improved so much aspects of his game under Eddie Howe.

Almiron’s performances have drawn attention from all corners of the football world.

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has said that Almiron has been ‘on fire’ this season.

While Darren Bent thinks Almiron has been ‘a revelation’ in Newcastle’s front three.

Neville won’t be the only person who has changed his mind on Almiron this season.

The Paraguayan has always been a popular figure among Newcastle fans, but this admiration has reached another level this season.

It’s up to Howe to help Almiron maintain this form as the World Cup break begins next week.
