Michail Antonio lauds Miguel Almiron; says Newcastle star is on fire
Michail Antonio has lauded Miguel Almiron, telling The Footballer’s Football Podcast that the Newcastle United star has been on fire of late.
Almiron has been one of the revelations of the season in the Premier League. Of course, much was made of the harsh comments Jack Grealish made about him in the summer.
But the Paraguayan has emphatically silenced the Manchester City star. He has now scored six goals in his last six games. Only four players across the division have now found the back of the net more often than the 28-year-old.
Almiron on fire
It was Almiron who rounded off the scoring during the 4-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend. And Antonio expressed how impressed he has been.
Meanwhile, Almiron’s Newcastle teammate Callum Wilson outlined how delighted he has been to see the attacking midfielder stealing the show for the Magpies this season.
“Let’s talk about this guy, Almiron. Six goals in six games. He is on fire,” Antonio told The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
“He’s doing it, he’s doing a madness. And I’m so happy for him because he’s a player who non-stop works on and off the ball,” Wilson added.
“Before this season and this spell of games where he’s been scoring, I think he’d scored two in 40-odd games, something crazy like that, maybe more. But then, now he’s got that confidence of just taking shots on wherever.”
Almiron has played a key role in guiding Newcastle up the table. Eddie Howe’s men sit inside the top-four and are playing some of the best football in the Premier League.
They are well ahead of schedule. It is almost easy to forget now that Newcastle were staring relegation in the face this time 12 months ago.
Many would have expected the Magpies to fly up the table at some stage. But it has been remarkable to see how quickly their fortunes have turned around.
Their new signings have played an important role, of course. Bringing in the likes of Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Bruno Guimaraes have been game-changing moves.
But the squad already there have more than played their part. And no player has done more to transform Newcastle this season than Almiron.
