Darren Bent has told talkSPORT that Miguel Almiron is one of his top five Premier League players of the season so far, insisting that he has been a revelation for Newcastle United.
Had Newcastle fans been told before the campaign started that one of their players would have seven goals under their belt at this stage, they would have been forgiven for taking some time before they guessed that the player in question was Almiron.

He went into this season having scored nine goals in 110 Premier League games for the Magpies.
Miguel Almiron a revelation
The 28-year-old has been a completely different player this time around. He has now scored seven times, including six in his last six for Eddie Howe’s side.

He is far from being the only player to really impress for Newcastle this season. But it is no surprise that Bent picked the Paraguayan out as he named his five best in the league so far this term.
“First of all, I’ve gone with Miguel Almiron,” he told talkSPORT. “I think he deserves a lot of credit because of what he’s done.
“He struggled at Newcastle, this is his fifth year and has struggled at times. People talking about the price-tag. But this season he’s been a revelation hasn’t he.”
Almiron’s form shows the importance of having confidence. It seemed that he previously had doubts about trying to make things happen, trying to produce something special.
Now however, he needs little encouragement to have a go at goal or try something.
Howe deserves real credit for that. Newcastle are building such an impressive unit. And they are already reaping the rewards with an amazing rise up the table over the last 12 months.
The challenge for Almiron now is to sustain this form now that he is receiving plaudits from all directions.
