Alasdair Gold says Tottenham 'absolutely love' Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi
Spurs have had a really impressive transfer window so far. Antonio Conte demanded to be backed this summer, and Daniel Levy, surprisingly, has obliged in a way that he has never really done before.
Much before the start of the new season, Tottenham have brought in six new players – Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.
There’s still a long way to go in the window, and Spurs could yet make one or two more new signings. One such player could be Guehi, who is said to be on Conte’s wish list. However Gold feels a move next year seems more likely.
Alasdair Gold says Tottenham love Marc Guehi
In his Q&A on Football London this week, Gold said about Guehi: “Spurs absolutely love him and I reported earlier in the summer that the 22-year-old was one of the names on their centre-back wish list.
“He plays mainly on the left of central defence where Tottenham now have Davies and Lenglet, although the latter can play in the centre if required.
“I just wonder whether the price that Palace would ask for the England international, who has a deal until 2026, would prove to be prohibitive and whether they’d even allow him to leave this year.
“Spurs will look for another centre-back if Rodon and/or Tanganga depart in the weeks ahead but I wonder if Guehi would maybe be one for next summer when I’m sure a number of teams will look at him after the World Cup.”

Guehi only joined Crystal Palace last year, but he has made a fantastic name for himself already.
The £31,000-a-week Englishman became a star at Selhurst Park last term. His performances even earned him an international call up, and he is now a favourite to be on that flight to Qatar for the World Cup later this year.
Guehi’s strength has been so impressive over the years that many of his teammates have named him as the strongest player in their squad. Josef Bursik said he’s ‘massive’ and even labelled him as an ‘absolute tank’.
Tottenham are absolutely right to target Guehi, and he’d be a huge upgrade over Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon, who are both expected to leave the club. However, as Gold said, a move next summer seems far more likely.
