Report: Tottenham keeping tabs on 'massive' Premier League defender as Bastoni alternative

Tottenham have Alessandro Bastoni at the top of their long list of potential defensive recruits, but remain keen on Crystal Palace star, Marc Guehi.

Bastoni has emerged as the number one choice for Antonio Conte this summer. The impressive Italian is potentially up for sale at Inter, who need to balance the books. However, it’s been widely reported how Bastoni is still unconvinced on a move to a Spurs on a personal level.

Of course, Tottenham will have alternatives. And according to Football London, one of those alternatives is Crystal Palace star and recent England call-up, Marc Guehi.

The former Chelsea man arrived at Selhurst Park in an £18m move in the summer. Since then, he’s gone from strength to strength, earning rave reviews and catching the eye of Gareth Southgate and his coaching staff.

One caveat with Guehi is that Football London reports how his long-term contract means that he’ll come with an expensive price tag. That is, of course, if Palace are even willing to entertain the idea of selling one of the best young defenders in Europe.

Guehi, who has been described as ‘massive’ and an ‘absolute tank’ by international teammates, could feature for England against Hungary this weekend.

TBR’s View: Guehi Suits Tottenham But Palace Surely Won’t Sell

There is no doubt that Marc Guehi is a star in the making. Well, he’s already a star, but there is a feeling he’s going to go on and get even better the more he plays.

His quality has shone through for Palace and you don’t get England calls without having that bit extra about you.

In terms of what Tottenham want, Guehi is ideal. However, the money involved could be massive, with Palace unlikely to sell for anything other than a record fee. But, if Spurs want these sorts of player, then they might simply have to put up the cash.
