'Very tough': £18m Palace star opens up on ‘decision’ to leave British giants this summer
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has opened up on leaving Chelsea this summer to join the south London side.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, the 21-year-old centre-back admitted that departing his boyhood club was a difficult decision.
However, Guehi is relishing the chance of playing regular Premier League football for Palace.
Palace paid a reported £18m for Guehi according to the Guardian as the youngster became one of many signings new manager Patrick Vieira made over the summer.
The transfer policy from the French coach was very clear. The Selhurst Park side making numerous young additions this window. The likes of Odsonne Edouard, Michael Olise and Joachim Anderson joined Palace this summer.
Indeed, Palace are yet to win a Premier League game under Vieira this season. But Guehi is very excited about the opportunities that have presented themselves following his arrival to the club.
Guehi said on his summer move to Palace: “To leave there (Chelsea) was a very tough decision, but I’m grateful for the opportunity that Palace presented me.
“To be a Palace player is fantastic and to be playing in the Premier League with them is even better. I’m very grateful.”
Indeed, leaving a club as big as Chelsea will be a tough move for any player. But for Guehi, the defender seems positive that he made the right decision in signing for Palace rather than waiting for his chance under Thomas Tuchel.
