Tottenham Hotspur would ‘very gladly’ allow Eric Dier to leave the club on a free transfer this month.
That’s according to David Ornstein, with The Athletic journalist sharing an update on Tottenham’s plans for the January transfer window.
Spurs have already secured one departure in the opening days of the window as Hugo Lloris made the switch to Los Angeles FC over the weekend.
The 37-year-old was allowed to leave on a free transfer after having just six months left on his deal and Eric Dier find himself in the same situation at Spurs when it comes to his contract.

Dier has found minutes hard to come by this term, with Ange Postecoglou even preferring the likes of Emerson Royal over the Englishman.
The 29-year-old has made just four appearances this term and reports have already claimed Postecoglou is willing to sell the defender.
Now, David Ornstein claims that Spurs would happily allow Dier to leave for free this month.
Tottenham ready to let Dier leave on a free transfer
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE, Ornstein stated that Spurs are looking to offload players over the coming weeks.
And after allowing Lloris to make the switch to the MLS for free, the journalist also claimed they’d be happy to see Dier depart.
“They would like players to go,” Ornstein said. “Hugo Lloris has already gone to LAFC. That doesn’t bring in a transfer fee but it moves his salary off the wage bill, which is crucial in this Financial Fair Play era.
“They would very gladly do the same with Eric Dier, who’s out of contract next summer and is not part of the plans.”

Dier was previously a key player at Spurs under the the likes of Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
But the ‘brilliant’ defender has fallen down the pecking order this term, with Postecoglou even preferring to play full-backs in central defence over the Englishman.
It’s quite telling for Dier that he’s only managed one start in a period where Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both been unavailable.
With Tottenham also closing in on the signing of Genoa centre-back Radu Dragusin, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see Dier head out the door before the end of the month.
