West Ham United have now made an approach for Eric Dier, with Ange Postecoglou making a decision on the Tottenham Hotspur defender’s future ahead of the January transfer window.

Eric Dier is set to be a free agent at the end of the season. And it has been telling that he has not started for Tottenham in some time, with Ange Postecoglou instead opting to deploy Emerson Royal and Ben Davies at centre-back.

With that, it appears that Dier has no future at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But perhaps he could yet remain in the Premier League with his next move.

David Moyes is an admirer of the England international, and reportedly believes that he ticks many of the same boxes as Harry Maguire – who nearly moved to the London Stadium in the summer.

Football Transfers adds meanwhile, that Postecoglou has already decided that Dier can leave Tottenham in the coming weeks.

Deal may end up suiting all parties

Dier may not be a signing who excites the West Ham fans. It is not the best sign that he has not played for Tottenham more at a time when they have been without their two first-choice centre-backs.

Having said that, West Ham will surely not have to pay a huge amount to get a deal done. Spurs will be aware that he can agree a pre-contract deal with a foreign club this month. So any fee would be beneficial.

And at his best, Dier has been ‘brilliant‘ in the Premier League. He has played more than 360 games for Tottenham during his career.

So if Moyes can play to his strengths, there is no reason why he could not prove to be another shrewd signing for the Hammers this month – if they do manage to reach an agreement.
