After Bissouma, Conte could secure Spurs’ biggest signing of the summer if reports are true – Our View

Lautaro Martinez could be the biggest Tottenham signing of a summer which has already started in an exciting way.

The arrival of Yves Bissouma has now been confirmed and it seems only a matter of time before Djed Spence joins him in north London.

But a big-money central defender or a striker would really send the transfer business to another level under Antonio Conte.

A centre-half is more of a necessity but the club have needed a backup for Harry Kane for years, and Martinez would be even more than that.

Martinez would be biggest Tottenham signing this summer

Signing Lautaro would be bringing in an elite attacking talent who would not even be guaranteed to start for them.

That is big club behaviour, getting quality in and giving the manager different options for different challenges rather than a set first team.

Lautaro also prefers to play in a front two, so there is the prospect that he could play with Harry Kane, or even Heung-min Son if the England captain is in need of a rest.

And it has been reported that Martinez is open to a move, which would see him reunite with his former Inter manager Conte.

It has also been claimed that talks with Spurs will start next week, now that the Bissouma deal is done and dusted.

Spurs are getting players of good quality in areas of the pitch they need them but Martinez would be the icing on the cake and would be the club’s biggest signing of the summer, truly signalling a new era at the club.
