Spurs target Lautaro Martinez is open to Premier League move - journalist

Tottenham and Arsenal target Lautaro Martinez is open to moving to the Premier League this summer, according to Give Me Sport, despite publicly stating his desire to remain at Inter Milan.

Both Spurs and the Gunners continue to look for a new striker in this window. The latter appear to have made progress. Reports claim that Arsenal are now closing in on signing Gabriel Jesus.

But Martinez is a player who has been on the radar of the North London pair for sometime. Tottenham reportedly agreed a £60 million fee for the Argentinian last summer. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s men were reportedly snubbed by the 24-year-old this summer after missing out on the top-four.

In fact, Martinez – who was labelled ‘spectacular‘ by Lionel Messi – has suggested that he wants to stay at San Siro. But that may not be the full story. Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that behind the scenes, Martinez is not shutting the door on the possibility of moving to England.

“Publicly Martinez continues to state his desire to stick with Inter yet this week sources close to the player indicated to GiveMeSport that a switch to England is still possible,” Jones said.

“Tottenham have long been mooted as a landing spot and still hold an interest. And they would have the jump on rivals Arsenal – thanks to Champions League football.”

Martinez open to Premier League move

Obviously, there are still challenges ahead. Reports have previously suggested that his asking price could be £55 million. And they are likely to demand even more if talks begin.

Arsenal appear to be close to signing Jesus. Meanwhile, any forward is likely to have reservations about moving to Tottenham.

Harry Kane remains the side’s talisman. And Tottenham fans are seeing the best of Son Heung-min right now. They have also brought in Dejan Kulusevski.

So Martinez would not necessarily be a regular starter should he reunite with Antonio Conte.

It will be very interesting to see what the future holds should Arsenal or Tottenham make a significant bid for Martinez in the weeks ahead.
