Report: Tottenham blow as 'unbelievable' January target sets sights elsewhere

Tottenham Hotspur could end up being dealt bad news in their pursuit of Wolves winger Adama Traore, with reports from Spain suggesting Traore is holding out for a move to Barcelona.

Traore – who Jack Grealish labelled unbelievable for his pace – has been front and centre of Tottenham’s January transfer targets. It’s believed Antonio Conte wants the speedy winger to play at right wing-back. Traore scored his first goal of the season this weekend, and reports over the weekend suggest Spurs are very much hopeful a deal can be done.

But in a potential spanner in the works, Sport have now claimed that Traore has his heart set on a move to Barcelona if it’s possible. Their report claims Traore is willing to hold out until the end of the season if the conditions can be met for him to return to Spain. Of course, that represents a problem for Tottenham.

However, it does marry up with what Duncan Castles said this weekend. Speaking on his Transfer Window Podcast, he revealed how there were no active talks between Traore and Spurs. Further, he also added in the line about Traore wanting a move to Barcelona. If this is the case, then Spurs might need to move on pretty quickly.

Well well well. Just when it looks like Spurs might get this one over the line this week, another spanner is thrown well and truly into the works.

Barcelona seem to causing problems for some clubs. Despite their lack of money, they seem to be emerging as major players in the market again. Whether this is all just talk and they can’t get deals done, remains to be seen. But they did land Ferran Torres for big money not so long ago.

Tottenham will need to pursue this quickly. They’ll need an answer from Traore ASAP. Otherwise, it will get to the end of January and they’ll be left stuck, and with no new signings.
