The agent of Nikola Milenkovic has reportedly flown to Milan to finalise a move to West Ham United.

What’s the story?

According to Viola News, there is still not ‘white smoke’ over an impending transfer despite recent claims. There are still allegedly small details to negotiate, with the current trip proving crucial.

These reports are in stark comparison to the news that has been floating about in recent days.

Just three days ago, the £14m-rated 23-year-old was supposedly saying goodbye to his teammates in Italy.

West Ham need to conclude a deal for Milenkovic swiftly

Adding quality to the current first-team squad has become a priority for the club this summer after Europa League qualification.

And this is especially true in the centre of defence.

Realistically, the Hammers have just three centre-halves for the start of next season.

Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna are the only players available to David Moyes. Winston Reid is still on the books, however, hasn’t made a first-team appearance in years.

One injury could leave the Scotsman sweating over his side’s backline.

In that regard, failing to complete a deal for the Serbia international would prove fairly disastrous.

It would leave the club needing to scour the market for an alternative. And with just over two weeks left in the transfer window.

And then you have the need to reinforce other positions on the pitch. The club also require a striker and potentially a replacement for Jesse Lingard.

Milenkovic is another quality player through the door, but, the deal needs to move at a quicker pace. Or the Irons risk missing out this window.
