£63m player now suggests he has no desire to join Tottenham this summer

Tottenham fans are sadly all too familiar with the feeling of being rejected by a footballer.

There was that famous comment from Angel Di Maria back in 2014 – when the Argentine claimed “it hurts when you are always doing your best for your club and then you hear that you might be going to Tottenham”.

There was also the Willian Saga – the Brazilian underwent a medical with Spurs before eventually signing for Chelsea, which left Spurs outraged, according to the Guardian.

Now – in less brutal fashion – another player has now suggested that they do not want to join Tottenham

Newcastle No.14 suggests he has no desire to join Tottenham

Well – according to The Sun – Tottenham are very keen to sign Newcastle No.14 Alexander Isak this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to buy a natural replacement for Harry Kane.

Spurs boast a number of excellent forwards such as Heung-min Son, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner, but they are all on the smaller side compared to more traditional, physical No.9s like Ivan Toney and the Swede.

While Postecoglou may well end up finding a new No.9 this summer, it sounds as if Isak won’t be the man to join after the £63m Sweden international expressed his love for Newcastle.

The 24-year-old told iNews: “I came here for the project, I absolutely love playing here, I really feel at home. I want to finish this season in a good way for me and the team. I love playing here.”

Isak has impressively scored 15 goals in just 22 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Alternatives for Spurs

It would now be a major shock if Isak left Tyneside this summer, so let’s take a look at who else Tottenham could sign to fill that No.9 position.

Speaking of the aforementioned Toney, the Brentford No.17 has actually been linked.

It was Alasdair Gold of Football London who told Spurs fans not to rule out the possibility of the England international moving to N17.

He told the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I’m not sure where Ivan Toney’s going to go. The big odds were on him to go to Arsenal, but that doesn’t seem to be as strong a link anymore at all.

“I wonder if in classic Spurs style they look at a player with a year left on his contract. In that system, he would get so many goals. I wouldn’t rule that out entirely, he would be a fantastic addition.”

A story from Corriere dello Sport adds that Tottenham could sign Bologna No.9 Joshua Zirkzee – a tall forward who has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Spurs, as a new striker could be joining this summer.
