Chelsea spent £296.5 million during the summer transfer window, but not every signing has hit the ground running.
While Estevao Willian is dazzling fans and Joao Pedro is showing potential, several summer signings have yet to prove what they’re truly capable of at Stamford Bridge.
Due to injury, Liam Delap hasn’t been able to showcase himself yet, while Jorrel Hato has only been handed limited minutes for the Blues.
However, one of Chelsea’s wonderkid signings has given Enzo Maresca a glimpse of what he can do during this international break.

Jamie Gittens proves to Enzo Maresca that he has what it takes to thrive at Chelsea
One of Chelsea’s most expensive summer signings was Jamie Gittens, whom the club bought for £48million from Borussia Dortmund.
The 21-year-old winger had shown real potential in Germany, scoring 17 and providing 14 assists in 107 appearances for the Bundesliga side in all competitions.
With Jadon Sancho moving on and Raheem Sterling being put in the ‘bomb squad,’ Chelsea needed to bring in more width.
Unfortunately, Gittens has failed to make the most of his opportunities for Chelsea this season, which has led to increasing frustration among the Chelsea fanbase.
Some have questioned whether the winger has what it takes to survive and thrive in the Premier League, at the top level for a team like Chelsea, after he has failed to score a goal or provide an assist in seven appearances.
However, Gittens showcased his qualities by assisting the match winner during England Under-21s’ 1-0 win against Andorra Under-21s on Wednesday night.
| Match Stats | Gittens |
| Big Chances Created | 3 |
| Key Passes | 5 |
| Crosses (Accurate) | 6 (3) |
| Total Shots | 3 |
| Dribbles (Successful) | 8 (5) |
His assist and the energy that Gittens brought to the pitch are exactly what Maresca needs to see from him on a Premier League matchday if he’s going to survive at the club.
Gittens will have to raise his individual game at Chelsea if he wants to make it, as relying on his youth doesn’t work when Estevao is tearing up the league on the other wing.

Poll: Do you think Jamie Gittens will succeed at Chelsea?
While things can take time for younger players, Gittens needs to deliver something to get fans excited about his potential at the least.
Tyrique George also proved a point for England Under-21s
Gittens wasn’t the only Chelsea youngster who thrived under Lee Carsley in midweek, as Tyrique George was also able to showcase his capabilities.
It was George who scored the only goal of the game, firing his strike into the roof of the net, as he aims to prove a point to Maresca as well.
George was kept at Stamford Bridge this season, despite becoming close to joining Fulham in the summer transfer window, but it hasn’t been an easy season.
Delap’s injury has provided the academy star some unexpected minutes this season, but George has sometimes struggled to adapt.
However, from this goal alone, it is clear that George has natural abilities that Maresca could harness, and the two youngsters had a day to remember.
