Newcastle United fans were treated to a 32-minute cameo from Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes against Switzerland last night.

The 25-year-old made his World Cup debut for the Selecao as they chased a winner against Switzerland.

Eventually it came through Guimaraes’ midfield partner Casemiro in the final few minutes of the game.

Guimaraes was given the task of progressing the ball from defence to attack and assisting Casemiro in breaking up any Swiss counter attacks.

He only misplaced three passes in his time on the pitch, but didn’t record a single tackle, block or interception.

The Newcastle star is currently behind the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Fred in the pecking order for Brazil.

His incredible form on Tyneside earned him his spot in Qatar, but Tite already has his favourites in the squad.

A number of his Brazil teammates were still very impressed with Guimaraes’ World Cup debut.

The £38m attacker was brought on at half-time for Paqueta, and got to celebrate alongside the 25-year-old when Casemiro’s winner went in.

Guimaraes has been a revelation at Newcastle this season, and is a big part of why they’re currently sitting in the top four.

Not only has been influential on the pitch, Guimaraes has been brilliant for Eddie Howe’s side off it.

The Brazilian in turn said the same thing about Allan Saint-Maximin, and the team spirit at the club is the best it’s been for years.

Newcastle fans might be hoping Guimaraes can help convince a few more Brazilians to arrive at St. James’ Park.
