Newcastle player says he keeps getting taken the mick out of in training

Newcastle United continue to impress this season and now find themselves in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The 30-year-old defender couldn’t have dreamed of scoring a better first goal for Newcastle.

The gangly centre-back danced through Leicester’s defence before passing the ball past Danny Ward.

Burn has adapted to his new role at left-back with aplomb, and looks very comfortable out wide.

Burn has now admitted that he’s been teased by his Newcastle teammates this season for not scoring.

It shows what the mood in the camp is like that they can wind the big defender up.

“The lads all take the mick out of me in training for not scoring so I’m glad I’ve done that and nobody can ever take that away from me.”

Burn is a threat from set pieces, but doesn’t score as often as he would like.

His last goal came for Brighton against Everton just over a year ago.

Despite not contributing in front of goal, Burn has become a key player for Eddie Howe this season.

The Magpies signed Matt Targett on a permanent deal to fill the left-back spot, but he’s not been needed for several months.

Instead, Burn has shown how impressive he is as a one-on-one defender with his displays on the flank.

Burn won’t mind the teasing from his Newcastle teammates over his goal scoring record now he’s finally broken his duck.

He’ll be hoping he doesn’t have to wait another 12 months to find the back of the net again.
