109 touches, 93% passing accuracy: ‘Top class’ Celtic player produced his best performance of the season yesterday

Celtic have a number of players in the team that have and continue to perform week in, week out in the Scottish Premiership.

Off the top of my head, Matt O’Riley, Luis Palma and Cameron Carter-Vickers are just three names that jump out at me.

If I were to think of others, Liam Scales would be one and, at times, so would Alistair Johnston (maybe). And that is exactly what is required to win titles and cups at a club like Celtic. Consistency is key.

Other players are struggling to find it this season whilst for people like Callum McGregor, it seems to come naturally. And he produced yet again when Celtic needed him to yesterday.

Callum McGregor was outstanding for Celtic vs St Johnstone

The Celtic captain is just Mr Reliable for Brendan Rodgers. Performances in Europe and for Scotland have made him one of Celtic’s most important players.

The Hoops gaffer praised his skipper yesterday and said he was absolutely outstanding as he dragged his team from behind to win the game.

And the stats back that up. According to SofaScore, McGregor produced his best performance of the season as they rated the Celtic legend an 8.2.

In 90 minutes, McGregor had 109 touches with a ‘top class‘ passing accuracy of 93%. The 30-year-old made three key passes and four shots on goal with two of them hitting the target.

Defensively, McGregor was sound as he made three tackles and won three duels. Oh, and there was the small matter of his equaliser that sparked the Celtic comeback.

McGregor was superb once more for Celtic and proved once again just how important he will be for Rodgers as the manager keeps his grip at the top of the table.
