'Zizou': Everton star now compared to Zinedine Zidane after his brilliant World Cup display

It was a very successful day for Everton at both club and international level.

Frank Lampard’s side ran out 5-1 winners against Western Sydney Wanderers in their final game in Australia.

It was a brilliant opportunity for Lampard to give some his talented academy players some first team action.

The likes of Isaac Price and Thomas Cannon especially impressed while Down Under.

Part of the reason Lampard has able to give these youngsters a chance was because of the World Cup.

And Evertonians would have tuned in to last night’s clash between Belgium and Canada to see one man in particular.

The Red Devils ran out 1-0 winners over Canada in their opening game, but it was a far from convincing performance.

Canada should have got at least a point, if not all three, against Belgium as they dominated Roberto Martinez’s side.

However, Martinez did bring young midfielder Amadou Onana off the bench at half-time, and he helped turn the tide in the second half.

Onana replaced Youri Tielemans who had no control over the game in the middle of the park.

The £33m Everton man did at least help regain some of that control, and worked well in tandom with Axel Witsel.

After his World Cup debut, Onana was compared to legendary midfielder Zinedine Zidane.

It might be a bit of a stretch, but there’s certainly plenty of belief in the 21-year-old.

The towering midfielder took to Instagram to celebrate his side’s win.

Onana posted a number of pictures with the caption, ‘Believe in yourself, because dreams do come true’

His Belgium teammate Zeno Debast was clearly impressed with performance, and simply called him: ‘Zizouuuu’.

Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville also loved how Onana played, despite the fact the pair have never played together.

Onana has immediately made himself a very important player to Lampard at Everton.

Jamie Redknapp has said that he thinks there’s no limits to how good Onana can get.

Belgium manager Martinez spoke to Onana before he joined his former club, and has been very pleased with his progress at Goodison Park.

It’s probably too soon to compare Onana to Zidane just yet.

But he may get a chance to start for Belgium against Morocco on Sunday after having a good game off the bench.
