Report: Tottenham player had 'physical problems' pre-Arsenal and prevented Conte from key tactical switch
Jamie O’Hara was among those to call for Tottenham to switch to a three in midfield after they were over-ran by Arsenal at The Emirates yesterday. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur could do little to prevent the Gunners from winning 3-1, as the likes of Partey, Xhaka and Zinchenko helped Arsenal dominate.
However, Football London has claimed that even if Conte had wanted to go three in midfield, Yves Bissouma’s poor physical condition upon returning from int’l duty prevented him doing so. It’s reported how Bissouma returned to training far from being in peak condition and was even considered a doubt at one point.
Of course, we saw how Conte brought Bissouma on late in the day at The Emirates in a quadruple change. But that was all too late, and Spurs’ summer signing needs to get fully up to speed quickly.
Conte has already spoken of how Bissouma isn’t where he needs him to be right now. The former Brighton man, then, seems to have plenty of work ahead of him.
TBR’s View: Bissouma Signing Not Working Out Yet For Tottenham
Everyone said the same when Tottenham signed Yves Bissouma. He was the ideal player to come in and help in midfield and should, in theory, have improved the first XI.
However, right now, things just aren’t going as planned for club or player. Bissouma has looked a shadow of the player he was at Brighton when he has played and it shows that Conte doesn’t quite trust him yet.
At the end of the day, Spurs spent big on Bissouma and they need more from him. That is down to him, and him alone.
