'You have to worry': Rio Ferdinand says Tottenham have a player who isn't the one 'we've grown to love'
Rio Ferdinand has told his YouTube channel that he is worried about the situation concerning Harry Kane as his struggles in front of goal for Tottenham Hotspur continue.
Kane has now made 13 Premier League appearances this season. However, his only goal came in the win over Newcastle United back in October.
Of course, it comes after a dramatic summer for Kane in which he looked to be closer than ever to sealing a move away from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He has had a little more luck in the Europa Conference League, scoring four times. And obviously, he scored seven times during the most recent international break.
That may almost make his lack of success in the top flight even more perplexing for Spurs. Ferdinand meanwhile, suggested that the chances of Manchester City making a fresh move are slim based on his current performances.
“If he’s not performing and not scoring, you have to worry about the situation with Harry,” he told his YouTube channel. “I don’t think they’ll let him go in the January window. But in the summer, you’re thinking if he continues playing this way, not scoring the goals, do City even come back and try and take him? This isn’t a Harry Kane we’ve grown to love.”
Tottenham may not view Kane form as problem while Conte’s men keep winning
Tottenham are still getting some decent performances out of Kane, even if he is not scoring. And in truth, the results have been impressive since Conte came in.
They have won three, taking 10 points from a possible 12 in the Premier League. Spurs have also scored seven in their last three.
Perhaps other players are benefitting from Kane getting a lot of attention. Certainly against Leeds, Marcelo Bielsa seemed to task both Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper with keeping Kane quiet. And another day, that would have left the door open for others.
Kane has been too good for too long to think that his goalscoring ability has deserted him permanently.
And if it comes back while Tottenham remain on a good run, a lot of teams are in a lot of trouble.
