Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claimed this week that Tottenham Hotspur attacker Bryan Gil is an option for Barcelona in the January transfer window.

The young Spaniard only joined Spurs a few months ago. The North Londoners swapped Erik Lamela and paid an additional £21.6 million to Sevilla to sign Gil, who in many people’s eyes, is a future star. (Sky Sports)

Since joining Tottenham, the 20-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions. However, he’s yet to open his account in a Spurs shirt and that is probably why there are rumours linking him with a move away already.

Barcelona, now under club legend Xavi Hernandez, would like to make a statement in January, but they don’t have big money to spend. As a result, they are looking at loan options, and Gil has emerged as a possible target.

The report claims that a loan offer with a clause in the deal that gives them an option to buy Gil at the end of the season could well be on the cards. It’s unclear how Spurs will respond if a bid is tabled, but many Barcelona fans have already made up their mind on Gil.

The mighty Catalans are seventh in La Liga at the moment after 13 games. That’s not something we usually hear, but that’s the reality now, and they really have to rethink their strategy to get the club back to the top.

Xavi has a mountain to climb at the Camp Nou, but if he can get his ideas across to his players, there is no reason why Barca won’t get back to where they belong.
