Celtic’s performance against Hearts seems to have Barry Ferguson worried after the former Rangers man bemoaned the lack of favours that other teams are offering right now.
Ferguson admitted to sitting down hoping to watch Hearts provide a stern test for Brendan Rodgers’ side but knew after ten minutes that there was none as Celtic stormed into an early lead.
But that wasn’t all that Ferguson noticed in the win. Watching the Hoops, the 45-year-old quickly noticed just how good Celtic are starting to become after witnessing the rout in Gorgie.
What has Barry Ferguson said about Celtic?
Speaking as a pundit, Ferguson said he’s seen Celtic start to up their performances and has urged his old club to ignore what’s happening on Glasgow’s east end and to stay fully focused on the job at hand.
Ferguson said [The Go Radio Football Show], “What I was thinking at quarter past two, ‘Right, Tynecastle, a tough place to go’. If I’m being honest, after 10 minutes, I was like there’s absolutely no chance Hearts are going to get back in this game.
“So yeah. Where is the favours going to come from? They’re motoring just now and you can see each game they’re starting to go up a notch.
“But all Rangers can do is forget about what Celtic are doing and really concentrate on number one.”
Brendan Rodgers is starting to up the standards at Celtic – opinion
It sounds mad to say but the Irishman really has. Ange Postecoglou dragged Celtic from rock bottom and turned them into a championship-winning team that steamrollered the opposition.
But Rodgers seems to be getting more out of the players at his disposal. Look at the improvements in Liam Scales, Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi.
All three have adapted their games to make themselves more effective within the Celtic team. Scales is a stronger defender, Maeda is chipping in with industrious performances and Kyogo is contributing to the team as a whole.

The Japan striker has started to come deeper which is allowing players like Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate to burst into the opposition’s box. Rodgers is starting to get the same free-flowing, attacking football going that was evident under Ange but it also looks like, defensively, Celtic are looking stronger and more stable.
Many may well disagree with this but Rodgers looks like he could be using the Celtic team more effectively than Postecoglou, especially when it comes to defending. The Hoops are already four points better off now than at the same stage of the league last season.
The proof, of course, will be in the pudding when Atletico come to visit on Wednesday. That is where the supporters will be hoping to see Rodgers’ plan in action to try and take all three points to keep the Champions League campaign alive.
