Tottenham Hotspur have made a busy start to the transfer window and appear to be backing their manager Antonio Conte.

The North London club have already brought in five players to bolster the Italian’s squad, with a sixth signing in Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence reportedly edging closer.

And due to their impressive summer business so far, former Spurs man Moussa Sissoko thinks his old side will win the Premier League.

In a Q&A on his Instagram story, the Frenchman was asked if Spurs will win the league next season. And the FC Nantes man is backing his old club to pull off what would be regarded as a huge shock.

He posted yesterday: “Strong squad with some very good signings so yes.”

The 32-year-old was sold to Watford by former Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo last summer in a deal worth around £3 million (BBC). Sissoko became a fan favourite in his latter years at the club, despite making a shaky start after the switch from Newcastle United in 2016.

Him and Harry Winks formed a solid midfield partnership in the 2018-19 season and were a big factor in Tottenham’s historic Champions League run. The Frenchman put in some brilliant displays during that campaign and seemed to have found his place in the team in the centre of midfield.

Sissoko even got his own chant amongst the Tottenham faithful that year as he completely turned his Spurs career around. And it appears the 32-year-old hasn’t forgotten the support and is now backing his old team to achieve big things this season.

TBR’s View: It may be a season too early for Spurs but they’re on the right track

There’s no doubt that Spurs are heading in the right direction under Conte and he is clearly being backed by the powers that be at the club. With the Italian manager happy, the North London club could go on to achieve big things in the near future.

But Manchester City and Liverpool have set the benchmark and it may be a tough ask for Conte to close that gap this season. If they can keep the boss happy and continue to build, they could be in a position to challenge within the next two seasons.
