Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Djed Spence for weeks now.

And today, there seems to have finally been a breakthrough in talks over the player.

David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have both put out reports regarding Spurs’ pursuit of Spence.

The Athletic journalist has claimed that Tottenham are ‘on the verge of a total agreement with Middlesbrough’.

‘If all goes to plan a medical is expected to take place in the next 48 hours,’ added Ornstein.

Meanwhile, Romano has taken to Twitter to claim the Spence to Spurs deal is ‘in progress’.

He said that talks between Tottenham and Boro are ‘finally advanced’.

The two clubs are now apparently discussing ‘key details and add-ons’.

However, Romano stressed that a deal is ‘not done or completed yet’.

He also added Daniel Levy was working on the deal in hope of getting it done ‘as soon as possible’.

Spurs set the bar quite high early on in the window as they made several top signings.

However, it won’t always be straightforward or quick, and the Spence negotiations have taken some time.

But now it looks as though things are finally progressing on that front.

“Combative, technical, swashbuckling”

Tottenham would be signing a top talent in Spence, a player who lit up the Championship with Nottingham Forest last term.

The 21-year-old’s efforts helped the Reds back into the Premier League for the first time in 23 years.

Spence also helped Forest beat Arsenal in the FA Cup, leading to Ian Wright lauding his efforts.

“Let me say, that was one of the best right back performances I have seen for a very long time,” he said on the Wrighty’s House podcast at the time.

“If we are talking about right-backs performing at an unbelievable level, we’re talking Reece James and Trent (Alexander-Arnold).

“But I have not seen a combative, technical, swashbuckling performance like that for a very long time.”

And Boro’s Sol Bamba told talkSPORT of Spence: “The potential is there, he’s an unbelievable, fantastic player.

“Under Conte, in my opinion, I think he will learn a lot.”
