Yannick Bolasie singles out two Crystal Palace players for praise after stunning 3-1 derby win over Brighton

Crystal Palace delivered an excellent performance against Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Two goals from Ismaila Sarr and a strike by Trevoh Chalobah – who impressed Chelsea fans – were enough to seal all three points for the Eagles, extending Crystal Palace’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to five games.

Every player surely made Oliver Glasner proud – although two in particular caught the eye of Crystal Palace cult hero Yannick Bolasie.

Yannick Bolasie hails Will Hughes and Ismaila Sarr

The man who made 144 appearances for Crystal Palace – scoring 13 goals – unsurprisingly singled out Sarr after his brace against the Seagulls, but felt Will Hughes also deserved a mention.

Bolasie wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Great performance today, Hughes and Sarr been 💪🏿 (strong) ❤️💙🦅, fans deserve this!!!!”

The latter was named Man of the Match by Sky Sports, an obvious choice after the Senegal international’s two goals, but his overall performance was utterly superb.

SofaScore shows that Sarr made two tackles, two blocks, one clearance and one interception on a day where he well and truly got stuck in, while also showing a ruthless efficiency in front of goal.

In regards to Hughes, the Crystal Palace No.19 made five tackles, rarely giving Brighton a chance to settle as he harried and pressed the Seagulls in terrier-like fashion.

Dougie Freedman found two bargains for Crystal Palace

Amazingly, Sarr and Hughes cost Crystal Palace just £18.7m – excellent value.

Dougie Freedman – Director of Football at Selhurst Park – moved to snap up the latter in a £6m deal from Watford back in August 2021, a signing which has proven to be superb value for money.

Furthermore, the Crystal Palace No.7 then arrived from Marseille last summer, costing the south Londoners only £12.7m – a bargain fee given the fact Manchester United wanted Sarr while he was shining at Watford.

Freedman was wanted by Newcastle last summer before the Magpies eventually failed to land the Glaswegian and hired Paul Mitchell instead – when he can spot value in the market as well as this, that should come as no surprise.
