‘Wow’- Tim Sherwood thinks Tottenham have made a really strange signing

Tottenham have just completed their sixth signing of the summer.

Xavi Simons has now followed the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha to Spurs after a £52m move from RB Leipzig was agreed.

Tottenham beat Chelsea to the Dutchman – who agreed personal terms with the Blues but grew impatient after a delay in proceedings.

Tim Sherwood has now shared his thoughts about Simons joining Tottenham – and he holds one concern.

Tim Sherwood questions if Xavi Simons is ready to make an immediate impact

Speaking on Sky Sports, the man who managed 28 games for Tottenham said: “They’ve got a lot of players in their squad (who are) very similar. Mathys Tel, why did they bring him in? I mean, he’s blocking up pathways. They’re all as good as each other.

“What I’m saying is I wanted them to sign a player who’s going to go straight into the first-team and be a mainstay in the side. I’m not sure Xavi Simons is that man. He excites me at times. He’s a bottle of pop, sometimes he fizzes and you go, wow.

“Then, for a couple of games, you don’t see him. I hope I’m wrong. I hope he gets some consistency.”

Simons – who enjoyed a phone call with Thomas Frank – scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions last season.

It means he averaged a goal involvement every 1.7 games – which is fairly consistent and goes against what Sherwood says.

Tottenham could not be signing a more prepared 22-year-old than Xavi Simons

We strongly believe the Netherlands international is going to prove Sherwood wrong.

As far as experience goes for a 22-year-old, Simons has it in abundance, and has needed to endure years of pressure after becoming a child sensation during his time in the famed La Masia academy at Barcelona.

The man born in Amsterdam had gone viral before even hitting his teenage years, and as others like Freddy Adu, Hachim Mastour and John Bostock faded away, Simons deserves credit for his impressive career so far.

At such a young age, the Dutchman has already played in Barcelona, Paris, Eindhoven, Leipzig and now London – also racking up 28 appearances for the Netherlands.

Some RB Leipzig fans even said Simons is the greatest in their history, which speaks volumes for someone so young.

Tottenham simply could not have found a more experienced 22-year-old for a sum of £52m in this market, and we feel the new Spurs No.7 is ready to prove Sherwood wrong immediately.
