‘Would suit Leeds United’: Kalvin Phillips says he'd love England star at Elland Road - not Ben White

Kalvin Phillips says England teammate Mason Mount is a player he’d love at Elland Road if he could take someone with him back to Leeds United.

Phillips, 25, is riding the wave of a man of the match performance at the weekend. England’s 1-0 victory against Croatia was impressive, so they can reflect on an ideal start to the Euro 2020 competition in the group stages.

He was deployed as an all-action central midfielder that seemed to cover every blade of grass on the pitch.

Interestingly, he showed he’s more than just a deep-lying midfield playmaker. For instance, he assisted Raheem Sterling’s goal with a great pass forward.

Phillips has been asked which England star he would pick if he could have anyone at Leeds. He wasn’t allowed to pick ex-Leeds man Ben White, so went with Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Mount.

“It’s a hard one that you know. I’d probably say Mason Mount. I feel like me and Mason get on quite well, but just the way we play. The way he presses in his position and the positions he gets himself into would suit Leeds United. He could probably take the way the manager works on board and he’d be a superstar if he came to Leeds,” Phillips said.

Mount, Phillips among standouts in England game v Croatia

For England fans, it was a massive relief to see the Three Lions beat Croatia in the opening match of Euro 2020 on the weekend.

Leeds would surely take any member of the current England squad to add into their team at Elland Road. However, Mount would have to be one of the first picks.

The Chelsea attacking midfielder shines as someone with stamina, flair and intelligence all rolled into one at the age of just 22.

Of course, there is no chance of Mount leaving boyhood club and Champions League holders Chelsea.

It’s a proud moment though for anyone associated with Leeds though to see their star now mixing it on the elite stage with the world’s very best. Phillips looks like he’s here to stay on the international scene. The trio of him, Declan Rice and Mount is definitely one to keep an eye out on.
