There is certainly a lot being made of Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher ahead of the upcoming January transfer window.

Despite being given the armband by Mauricio Pochettino, Gallagher is still being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Among those keen, are top four rivals. Tottenham are known to be huge fans of the England man, while Eddie Howe and Newcastle have also been linked in recent days.

Quite whether anyone will pay the reported £50m Todd Boehly wants for Gallagher, remains to be seen.

And interestingly, it appears manager Pochettino would be completely against his midfielder going.

Pochettino wants Conor Gallagher to stay at Chelsea

According to journalist Paul Brown, speaking for GiveMeSport, Gallagher will only leave Chelsea if it’s a decision taken out of the manager’s hands.

“I think it was always an upstairs decision to dangle Gallagher’s name out there. He didn’t want to leave. The manager doesn’t want him to leave. The fact that he was given the armband shows just how much trust the manager has in him. And when we asked Pochettino about plans in the transfer market, he’s very firm that nothing will happen without his approval. So it’s hard to see Gallagher going. If he is sold for whatever reason, I think it would be against his will. I think that would cause problems with Pochettino. So I’m 100% sure that the manager does not want Gallagher to leave Chelsea,” Brown said.

Boehly could start revolt of he sells Gallagher

Make no mistake here, if the Chelsea owner decides to sell one of the club’s home-grown diamonds and a player who the manager likes, then a lot could happen.

Chelsea fans will not be impressed, for a start. Meanwhile, Pochettino would surely wonder what’s going on and question those above him and their ambitions.

We all know that the issue for Chelsea is FFP related and selling a home-grown player counts as nothing but profit.

But selling Gallagher is a disaster move for Boehly and co. If it happens, then you can expect a fair few grumbles from the Blues faithful.
