Newcastle United have apparently asked about signing Dominic Solanke this month.
The Magpies have been credited with a strong interest in the Bournemouth striker, and this move would be very interesting to say the least.
Of course, Solanke is a player that Eddie Howe knows well from his time at Bournemouth, and a reunion could now be on the cards.
Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Chris Sutton has shared his verdict on the rumours surrounding Solanke and Newcastle, and he believes this would be an excellent move.

Solanke would be excellent for Newcastle
Sutton shared his verdict on this rumour.
“The interesting thing that has come out the last couple of days is talk about Dominic Solanke and Eddie Howe’s interest in taking Solanke up north, that would be an excellent move and there’s a lot of competition already in those striking positions with Isak and Wilson,” Sutton said.
Overkill
As much as we like Solanke as a footballer, we can’t get on board with the idea that this would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle.
Yes, he’s a talent, but both Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak are already in the squad and are both truly incredible strikers.
Of course, you can never have too many talented players in your squad, but we’ve seen over the past 18 months just how important squad harmony is at Newcastle, and if either Wilson or Isak are forced to drop out of the side on a regular basis, they’d have every right to kick up a bit of a fuss.
Whether or not Newcastle do end up going for Solanke remains to be seen, but we can’t help but think that this would be a bit of an unnecessary move, especially when there are other gaping holes in this Newcastle side that need addressing.
