'World level': Pundit says Spurs have a 'very complete' player in their ranks - besides Kane and Son
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been described as a “very complete centre-back” by Gustavo Coleoni.
Romero has reportedly been deemed the third ‘superstar’ in the Tottenham squad alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
The 24-year-old is likely to play a big role for Argentina in Qatar, a tournament likely to be Lionel Messi’s international swansong.
Therefore, the nation’s attention is on Romero, one of the players set to be tasked with shutting out world-class opponents.
Coleoni seems to feel that both Tottenham and Argentina are lucky to have him in their ranks.
He described Romero as a “very complete centre-back” and “a product of aggressiveness”.
Coleoni also said: “He invites the challenges, goes for the tackle, he goes looking for it. That’s why he’s playing at a world level.”
As good as the players around you?
While there’s no doubting Romero’s quality, he has been somewhat inconsistent for Spurs at times.
In some matches, he’s a colossus, while in others, he seems to be a bit rash, which could lead to errors and cards.
Then again, given the gap in quality between Romero and the defenders around him, he can’t really play to his full potential.
Jamie Carragher himself recently said on The Overlap that Romero is the only “top-drawer” defender at Spurs.
This is something Antonio Conte needs to address in the next two transfer windows.
