According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League rivals now think Spurs have signed a superstar in Cristian Romero.

The Argentine was viewed by everyone as a good signing when Fabio Paratici brought him in on loan last summer. However, nobody really believed he’d be as incredible as he has been over the last few months.

The 24-year-old has played 30 times for Tottenham in all competitions this season. He is undoubtedly their best defender, and Spurs really should thank their recruitment team for identifying him.

It’s not just people at Tottenham who have been impressed with Romero, there are plenty of others across the country as well.

PL rivals think Tottenham have signed a superstar in Cristian Romero

Romero didn’t have the greatest of starts to his Tottenham career. He impressed early on under Nuno Espirito Santo, but just as he was close to reaching his best, he suffered a terrible injury that kept him out of the side for over two months.

Since his return, however, he has been absolutely unbelievable.

He is one of the biggest reasons why Spurs are anywhere near the top four at the moment and even Spurs’ rivals are noticing how good he is now.

The report claims that football people inside and outside Tottenham believe Romero is another superstar that Spurs have signed to add to their two biggest names – Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.

TBR View:

It’s not usual for a central defender to be a superstar in today’s game – unless you’re Virgil van Dijk or Sergio Ramos. However, Romero could well be one for Tottenham.

One of the biggest requirements of Antonio Conte’s system is solidity at the back. Eric Dier and Ben Davis have done well alongside Romero, but neither of them would’ve been as good without the Argentine.

Romero’s positioning, quality on the ball and aggressiveness in tackles has really made Spurs better at the back. He is proving to be a phenomenal signing, and the fact that he’s only 24 means he’ll only get better.

Tottenham host Arsenal in the biggest game of their season tomorrow and Romero will be the key man at the back again.
