After taking time to assess his Liverpool squad it seems that Arne Slot has now decided which additions he’d like to make to the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.
According to recent reports, Slot would like to immediately reinforce two positions in his squad, in defence and in midfield.
Incidentally, those are the two positions Liverpool lost experienced heads in this summer: Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara.
It’s long been thought that Matip would need to be replaced, especially given the speculation over Virgil van Dijk’s long-term future.
And although Slot is keen to hand a chance to Sepp van den Berg in pre-season, it seems Liverpool will take to the market.
Perhaps a cut-price deal for Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio could be the solution, a player who seemed destined for great things.
However, in terms of who may arrive to strengthen Liverpool’s midfield, well it still seems very undecided.
But those who watched Spain’s win over England in the final of the Euros may all be in agreement in that regard.
Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi is ready-made for Arne Slot at Liverpool
After falling to injury, Manchester City star Rodri was replaced by Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi at half-time.
And after delivering a ‘world-class’ performance in his 45 minutes, Zubimendi proved why he should be Slot’s priority target this summer.

In the last summer window under Klopp, Liverpool battled to sign both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, only to ultimately be gazumped by Chelsea’s money.
And although Wataru Endo turned out to be a solid addition, Liverpool would definitely still benefit from the addition of an elite number six.
Slot’s midfield looks unbalanced in that regard, unless the Dutchman plans to drop Alexis Mac Allister into a deeper role – a decision which would inhibit the Argetinian’s attacking output.
But across the long season ahead, Liverpool need more options.
Zubimendi, who has a £53m release clause (Sky Sports) is an excellent passer, he’s dynamic in his movement and he’s still only 25-years-old.
Of course, Liverpool’s biggest challenge will be Zubimendi’s reluctance to leave Sociedad for England, as Arsenal have seemingly found.
But in a summer in which Manchester United also want the Spaniard, Liverpool could make a real statement of their ambition under Slot by convincing the midfielder to sign.
