'With all due respect': Agent suggests his client is actually better than £24m Arsenal star
Arsenal star Bernd Leno’s agent Joannis Koukoutrigas has come out and claimed that his client deserves to be the number one at the Emirates ahead of Aaron Ramsdale.
The German international had played over 100 games for Arsenal before the start of this season. He was expected by almost everyone to continue as the number one, but things took a drastic turn in September last year.
After Arsenal lost three games in a row and were stuck at the bottom of the Premier League table, Mikel Arteta decided to change the man between the sticks.
£24 million summer signing Ramsdale was given the nod and the Englishman quickly became the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. Leno’s agent, however, has suggested that it was a mistake.
Agent: Bernd Leno should be Arsenal’s number one ahead of Ramsdale
“For me, personally, Bernd is also the clear No.1 at Arsenal. With all due respect to the competitors.
“Yes, Fulham is trying hard to get Bernd. Very professionally. This is also true for some other clubs and shows his status.
“But, as I said, for me he is the No.1 at Arsenal and we are therefore also relaxed.”
Leno is a fantastic goalkeeper, there’s no debate on that front. However, Ramsdale has just been on another level this season.
The Englishman’s distribution is up there with the best in the country, and he’s very clearly above Leno with the ball at his feet.
An argument can be made about the German’s shot-stopping, but Ramsdale has been brilliant in that department as well, pulling off numerous outstanding saves – remember the one against James Maddison at Leicester?
Leno’s agent is entitled to his opinion, but we feel Ramsdale has earned his number one spot and deserves to be Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper for the foreseeable future.
