According to The Evening Standard, Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar and Bernd Leno have agreed that it’s time for the latter to leave the Emirates this summer.

The German international joined the Gunners from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2018. For the most part from then until the start of this season, Leno was the first choice, but things changed in September last year.

After Arsenal lost each of their first three games of the season, Mikel Arteta decided to make a change in goal, and in came Aaron Ramsdale. The Englishman barely put a foot wrong all season and is now the undisputed number one at the club.

That has pushed the German down the pecking order and he’s likely to leave the Emirates this summer.

Bernd Leno has been told he can leave Arsenal

Leno has played 125 times for Arsenal in his four seasons at the Emirates.

He will enter the final year of his contract this summer and talks with the club were expected to happen at some point.

The report claims that Edu and the German sat down for a meeting before the end of the season to discuss his future, and both parties agreed that he can leave Arsenal this summer.

It is very likely he will move on in the coming weeks, and if reports are to be believed, he may end up not too far away from the Emirates.

Fulham want to sign Leno

Fulham achieved promotion back to the Premier League last season, and one of Marco Silva’s priorities in the transfer window is to sign a new goalkeeper this summer.

Reports revealed over the weekend that the Lilywhites are really keen to sign Leno from Arsenal and have even entered talks to bring him in.

It has also been claimed that the German is keen to stay in London, which makes a move all the more likely.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Leno definitely is a ‘magnificent’ goalkeeper, and he’d be an extraordinary signing for Fulham. However, whether he’d fancy a potential relegation battle at Craven Cottage next season is the big question here.
